Indonesia Implements Gender Equality

New York (Antara Bali) - Indonesia has set an advanced paradigm for gender equality and women empowerment in daily activities, according to Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK).

"We have shown good gender equality, which is being implemented in various fields, such as in the education, health, and political sectors. Though problems related to women empowerment still exist, but Indonesia continues to make efforts to overcome them," JK stated here after delivering a speech at the United Nations General Assembly on Sunday.

The vice president remarked that Indonesia had a woman leader in the form of the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"Currently, there are eight women ministers working in our cabinet," JK pointed out.

The vice president was accompanied by Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Susana Yembise and Indonesian Special Envoy for the United Nations Desca Percaya.

JK emphasized that Indonesia had demonstrated its commitment to implementing gender equality and women empowerment in day-to-day life as well as in the political sector.

According to JK, Indonesia must change the negative thought process and work towards achieving gender equality and women empowerment.

JK visited New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday (Sept. 26). He will also hold a bilateral meeting with Croatian President Kolindra Grabar Kitarovic and Bulgarian President Rosen Pleyneliev. (WDY)
