Jakarta (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to launch the operations of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) project in South Jakarta on Monday.
The first TBM called "Anteraja" will commence operations in the Senayan Statue area to dig a tunnel towards Setiabudi point.
The Anteraja is one of the four TBMs that will be operated in the MRT project in Jakarta.
Using the "Earth Pressure Balance (EPB)" technology, the TBM in Indonesia has been made by a Japanese company, Japan Tunnel Systems Corporation.
Weighing 323 tons, the TBM has a diameter of around 6.7 meters and a length of 43 meters.
The Anteraja TBM is able to drill a tunnel at a speed of eight meters per day, and the construction of the tunnel is expected to run from September 2015 to December 2016. (WDY)
