International Researchers Discuss Rafflesia In Bengkulu

Bengkulu (Antara Bali) - Researchers from eight countries participated in the International Symposium on Rafflesia and Amorphophallus organized by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) in Bengkulu.

Didiek Widyatmoko, the head of the Conservation Plant Center, Bogor Botanical Gardens, LIPI, here on Tuesday (September 15) stated that the researchers were also the speakers at the symposium.

"In addition to researchers or botanists, academics and conservationists of rare flowers also participated in the event," Didiek said.

He affirmed that the symposium, which was initiated by the Research and Development Board of Bengkulu province and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, has also launched a strategic planning document on the protection of rare flowers, especially Rafflesia and Amorphophallus.

The symposium examines various research and conservation activities conducted on Rafflesia and Amorphophallus by researchers and practitioners from around the world.

Head of the Research and Development Board, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Hendri Bastaman remarked that Rafflesia is protected under the law.

According to Bastaman, the symposium is a step forward in the conservation of Rafflesia and Amorphophallus.

The scientific meeting is expected to improve cooperation in research on Rafflesia and Amorphophallus. (WDY)
