Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Immigration authorities nabbed eight South Korean citizens employed as construction workers in Melawai area, South Jakarta, on Thursday.
"They arrived in Indonesia on May 24, 2015 via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport using tourist visas," Head of the South Jakarta First Class Immigration Office Cucu Koswala said here on Friday.
The eight South Korean citizens had abused their tourist visas by working as construction workers, he said.
The South Koreans are identified as Jong Sik (56), Intaek (57), Jungwan (60), Youngjin (39), Jaewon (40), Keedon (40), Gyutae (60) and Euljin (60).
They were employed to fix electrical installations at a building which will be used as a karaoke parlor, he said.
Cucu said immigration officers are trying to find evidence pointing to the involvement of the Indonesian citizen in employing the South Koreans.
Based on the results of preliminary investigation, the South Koreans violated the immigration law and that they will be deported to their country, he said.
However, he added that the immigration authorities will refer the case to a court if they find two pieces of evidence. Under article `122 letter a of law number 6 of 2011 on immigration, the South Koreans can be sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail and fined Rp500 million for abusing permits. (WDY)
