Indonesia Sets Aside Rp 1.5 Trillion For Sebatik Infrastructure

Nunukan, North Kalimantan (Antara Bali) - The government will soon build infrastructure projects on the frontier Sebatik island in Nunukan, North Kalimantan .

The government has set aside Rp1.4 trillion from the state budget for a number of infrastructure projects on the island of Sebatik  this year, Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs, Security and Law, Tedjo Edhy Purdjianto said here on Sunday.

"The funds of Rp1.4 trillion will soon be disbursed to build a number of infrastructure projects for Sebatik alone," Tedjo said.

He said the ministry of public works and housing would also spend larger funds for public works projects in the border area  in  the regency of Nunukan.

The projects are part of the program pledged earlier by President Joko Widodo to modernize backward areas in North Kalimantan.

The priority in the program to improve the public welfare in the district of Nunukan if is to build transport infrastructure such as roads, ports as well as ships , market centers and schools, Tedjo said.

He said development of the facilities would improve the welfare of the people and reduce dependence on other countries for domestic requirement. (WDY)
