Indonesia Mourns Death Of Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew: VP

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - On behalf of the people of Indonesia, Vice President Jusuf Kalla extended his deepest condolences over the death of Lee Kuan Yew, the father of modern Singapore and one of the key figures of Asia.

"Singapore experienced rapid development under Lee's tenure, and later, it had a great impact on the ASEAN," the vice president noted in a written statement received here on Monday.

According to Kalla, Lee Kuan Yew's views and insights will serve as a constant source of inspiration for Asia.

The Government of Indonesia, through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has condoled the death of Singapore's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, a statement on the ministry's Twitter account said on Monday.

Lee, a statesman, was known as the father of modern Singapore and one of the towering figures in Asia, according to the statement. He was also known to have close relations with Indonesia.

The founding father of Singapore passed away at the age of 91 at the Singapore General Hospital in the early hours of Monday morning. Lee, who had been ailing from severe pneumonia, was admitted to the hospital since February 5. (WDY)
