Solo, C.Java (Antara Bali) - Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir said results of researches conducted by higher education institutions should be applied in the industrial sector to improve the people's welfare.
"Researches should concern scientific aspects and should be in accordance with industries' needs," the minister said here Wednesday.
"Higher education institutions conduct a lot of great researches, but industries cannot apply them," Nasir added.
According to him, students should learn about entrepreneurship besides their academic subjects. "Learning it is important to stimulate the spirit of entrepreneurship," Nasir noted.
The minister remarked that challenges in the future will be greater, so universities should take the responsibility of providing competent human resources.
Currently, the higher education institutions in Indonesia can only graduate 2,671 engineers per one million population, whereas it needs 10,000 engineers per one million population to make the country's development successful. (WDY)
