Wakatobi to Host UCLG-ASPAC 2015 Meeting

Wangiwangi, SE Sulawesi (Antara Bali) - The Wakatobi District administration of Southeast Sulawesi has been entrusted to organize the United Cities And Local Governments-Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC)' 2015 meeting, secretary general of UCLG-ASPAC Bernadia Tjandradewi said.

"Wakatobi was appointed host of the ULCG-ASPAC 2015 meeting during the fifth congress of UCLG-ASPAC in Taipei, Taiwan, last September. But only yesterday did we sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)," Bernadia said here on Wednesday.

The MoU was signed by Wakatobi Regional Government Secretary Sudjiton and Bernadia Tjandrawati in Wangiwangi on Mondahy.

Speaking on the sidelines of a national culture seminar here on Wednesday, Bernadia said that the ULCG-ASPAC meeting in Wakatobe would be held in September 2015 and was expected to be attended by 500 participants, including 200 district heads/mayors and governors from the Asia Pacific region.

"The date of the event will still be discussed later in accordance of the readiness of the local government of Wakatobi, but it will be in September 2015," Bernadia said.

The UCLG - ASPAC is an association of district/municipality and provincial governments in the Asia Pacific region.

The organization conducts annual meetings to discuss development and government issues in districts/municipalities and provinces.

"We hope President Joko Widodo will attend and open the meeting," she added. (WDY)
