Five Warships To Secure Bali Waters Ahead Of UNAOC

Nusa Dua (Antara Bali) - Five warships will be deployed to secure Bali`s waters in connection with the United Nations Alliance of Civilization (UNAOC) conference scheduled to be held on August 29-30.

"We will deploy five warships to anticipate against any foreign movement seeking to sabotage the event on the island," Chief of the island`s naval base, Colonel Julius Widjojono, stated in Nusa Dua, Badung, on Monday, with regard to the security preparations for the event.

He explained that the ships to be deployed are KRI Weling, KRI Ahmad Yani, KRI Makassar, KRI Pulau Rimau, and KRI Soputan.

He noted that the KRIs will be on standby at Benoa and will later conduct patrolling around Nusa Dua and Denpasar, the capital of the island.

Julius remarked that patrolling will be focused on the waters around Bali`s International Ngurah Rai Airport.

"That is the most sensitive area, which will be our focus," he pointed out.

Besides that, the seaport of Benoa will also be the focus of attention, he stated.

"We will prepare 50 to 150 personnel to conduct patrols," he added. (WDY)
