President to Open Bali Arts Festival

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is slated to open the 32nd Bali Arts Festival (PKB) at the Ardha Chandra Culturar Park here on Saturday night.

"But before the president opens the festival, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika will open a cultural parade, one of the five main agendas of the  annual art performances in Bali," Bali provincial administration spokesman I Putu Suardhika said here on Saturday.

Putu said that after opening the festival on Saturday night, President Yudhoyono and his entourage  would watch  a colossal ballet performance by students of the Denpasar Indonesian Art Institute (ISI).

Themed "Sudamala" to internalize the sincerity of  conscience, the festival will lasr one month until July 10, 2010.

Putu Suardhika explained that the five main agendas of the PKB were a cultural parade, competitions, shows, informal discussions, and a small industry and  household craft exhibition.

During the one-month festival, there will be 180 performances involving 15,000 noted art workers from eight districts in Bali.

Meanwhile, local cultural office spokesman Ida Bagus Sedhawa said 12 provinces in Indonesia would participate in the festival.

The 12 provinces are East Java, Riau, West Sulawesi, Gorontalo, West Kalimantan, Tangerang, West Jakarta, Magelang, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Lombok, Lingga district, and North Jakarta.

In addition, nine foreign art groups among others from the United States, India, Sweden, Japan, Canada, and France will participate in the festival. (*)
