Silver Export Worth US$8.71 Million

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Bali's exports of silver handicrafts from January to May 2013 amounted to US$8.71 million, up 1.64 percent from the same period last year, an official said.

"However, Bali's export volume during this five-month period in 2013 declined by 31.84 percent, with 2.94 million pieces exported during this period in 2012 compared with 2.04 million pieces exported during the same period in 2013," stated Bali provincial chief of public relations department, I Ketut Teneng, here on Saturday.

The data indicated an ongoing increase in the price of Bali's exports of silver handicrafts, he said.

According to Ketut, in 2013, 28.83 percent of these exports went to Singapore, 17.93 percent to Hong Kong, 13.09 percent to the United States, 14.43 percent to Australia, 0.34 percent to France, 0.18 percent to Japan, 8.10 percent to the Netherlands, 1.86 percent to England, and 2.1 percent to Germany.

Another 13.23 percent went to several other countries, Ketut remarked, adding that Bali's silver handicrafts were one of 17 types of local handicrafts that have penetrated the global market.

These handicrafts are very popular with tourists, who purchase these items to take home to their own countries. (*/DWA)
