Bandarlampung (Antara Bali) - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck the waters northeast of Morotai Island in North Maluku province early Thursday, according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The quake which occurred at 02.33 a.m. western Indonesian time was centered 49 km northeast of Morotai Island or 2,602 km northeast of Jakarta at a depth of 207 km, Yuharman, the head of the Kotabumi geophysics station in Lampung province, said.
The temblor was not significant enough to cause a tsunami, according to the agency. There was no immediate report of casualties or material damage. (*/DWA)
