Biak (Antara Bali) - Around 2,500 Muslims in Biak Numfor district, Papua, observed the Isra Mi'raj holiday at Baiturrahman grand mosque in the district town of Biak on Thursday morning.
Muslims in Indonesia observe Isra Mi'raj on Thursday, June 6, 2013 to commemorate the Prophet Muhammad's journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and his ascent into heaven.
Isra Mi'raj is observed on the 27th day of Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar. Organizing committee chairman Andi Firman Madjadi said in Biak that the commemoration of Isra Mi'raj was part of their effort to increase their faith and devotion to Allah SWT.
"Through the commemoration, the Muslims can gain enlightenment values of religion to be practiced in their everyday life," Andi Firman Madjadi said. (M038)
