Nine Houses Torched in Clash

Palu (Antara Bali) - Nine houses were torched in a clash between residents of Duyu and Pengawu villages in the Central Sulawesi provincial capital of Palu on Tuesday night.

The clash broke out on Tuesday evening after a resident of one of the villages had beaten a resident of the other village. The incident led to a  mass clash until 10.00 p.m on Tuesday.

The clash also caused damage to a number of buildings on their windows and roofs.

One person died of gunshot wounds on his chest and dozens of others were injured in the clash.

The arson left tens of people displaced, with some of them taking refuge in safer places such as mosques.
 
By Wednesday morning, hundreds of military and police personnel were deployed in the scene to prevent a renewed clash. (IGT)
