No Threat on ASEAN Free Trade

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Suryo Bambang Sulisto said the ASEAN Free Trade did not constitute a threat but an opportunity to Indonesia to integrate its economy globally.

"The ASEAN Free Trade is not a threat but a big opportunity," Suryo Bambang Sulisto said in a written statement made available to Antara here on Saturday.

Suryo made the remarks in response the concerns of a number of people who questioned Indonesia's readiness to face the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015.

He said that it was logical if some questioned Indonesia's readiness because up to the government and the private sector had not yet shown integrated preparations in the face of AEC.

Suryo reminded that based on its goal, the AEC constituted a realization of the 2020 vision of ASEAN countries' economic integration by forming a single market and a joint production basis. (*/DWA)
