US Secret Service Makes Pre-Obama Visit Security Checks

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - A team from the United States Secret Service (USSS) on Friday checked places to be visited by President Barack Obama in Bali.

The 12-member team from the USSS also visited the regional police command headquarters that day to collect information regarding the security situation on the island.

They were received by the chief of the regional police command, Inspector General Sutisna and some of his subordinates.

Sutisna said after the closed-door meeting that the team had come to check the readiness of the island for  President Obama's planned visit.

"We explained to them about the security preparations and they eventually praised a number of measures that we have taken," he said.

He said the team members who were experts in various fields had specially met him to conduct coordination with regard to security technicalities.

President Obama is scheduled to stay in the Nusa Dua tourist resort while in Bali.

He is  to visit Uluwatu Temple in Badung, which is the biggest temple in Bali, and Besakih Temple in Karangasem.

Therefore, Sutisna said, the police would tighten security on a number of land routes to be passed by President Obama in addition to other tourist objects to be visited by him.

The meeting lasted for almost two hours but none of the team members would later speak to newsmen.

Regarding the police's tasks he said the police would be in the third ring while the second ring would be occupied by the military.

"The first ring meanwhile will be controlled by a security team from the White House," he said.

The US security team is an advance team while other security teams would follow.(*)
