Bengkulu (Antara Bali) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has set aside Rp68 billion to build six tsunami shelters in six districts of Bengkulu Province as one of risk reduction measurements in the Sumatran region.
The fund from the 2013 State Budget (APBN) is to be allocated to the construction of the shelters in Bengkulu, North Bengkulu, Mukomuko, South Bengkulu, Seluma and Kaur District.
"The shelters constitute an evacuation building or an escape building when a tsunami occurs. They would serve as multi-purpose buildings," Head of the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency of Bengkulu Kolendri said here, Thursday.
Bengkulu was one of ten Provinces that become the main target for tsunami mitigation and risk reduction program in Indonesia.
The construction of the shelters would be started soon and is expected to be completed this year. (*/DWA)
