Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian migrant workers in the conflict areas of Sabah, Malaysia, have been evacuated and are now in safe condition, Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa said here on Monday.
"They have been relocated to safer area, and even a team of our consulate office has visited them and found them in safe condition. But we will continue to monitor they situation," the minister said.
Marty said there has been no report so far about Indonesian migrant workers who face a problem in Sabah following an ongoing armed conflict there.
According to him, the government has had a cooperation with Malaysian companies which employed the Indonesian workers and thus they have been relocated to a safer area.
"The government has taken anticipatory measures through our representative office in Malaysia, and therefore there is no problem with our migrant workers there," Marty said.
Meanwhile, Indonesian consul in Tawau, Mohammad Soleh, said on Thursday that the Malaysian government has promised to ensure security and safety of Indonesian national and migrant workers in Sabah.
He said the Malaysian government would ensure the safety and security of Indonesian national and migrant workers following a clash with gunmen from the Southern Philippines. (*/DWA)
