Embassy Searches for Trafficking Victims

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, in coordination with Malaysian police and immigration, is still searching the human trafficking victims across several locations identified as prostitute houses.

"The Malaysian immigration and police have searched for the trafficking victims on Wednesday evening. However, they have not found any Indonesian citizens who are working as prostitutes," the Deputy Indonesian Ambassador for Malaysia Hermono confirmed here on Thursday.

The police investigation noted there are at least 60 trafficking victims from Indonesia who have been employed as prostitutes in Malaysia.

According to Hermono, the victims were found in spa centers, often been misused as prostitute houses.

He added that the Police had closed four out of 11 spa centers, which had become a shelter for trafficking victims.

"We have detained the suspect who managed the victims from Indonesia, namely Ina. The police stated that she was violating immigration and human trafficking laws," Hermono explained. (INE/M038)
