President Guard Gives 20,000 Trees

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Presidential Security Guard (Paspampres) distributed 20,000 trees among residents at a function marking its 67th anniversary here on Sunday.

The occasion took place at the Paspampres command station on Tanah Abang II Street, Central Jakarta, led by Paspampres deputy commander Brig. Gen. Denny Kurniadi, and attended by assistants to the guard's commander, the group commander, Petojo village head Dedi Arif Darsono and local residents.

The chief of the event's organizing committee, Col. Edmil Nurjamil, said the 20,000 tree seeds were grown at Sentul, south of Jakarta.

The seeds comprised 3,000 sengon trees ((Paraserianthes falcataria), 3,000 jabon trees (Anthocephalus cadamba), 2,000 mahogany trees, 1,000 merbau trees (Moluccan ironwood or Malacca teak), 5,000 jackfruit trees, 4,000 soursop trees, and 2,000 bell fruit trees.

"These seeds will be distributed among residents living near the Paspampres command station. Those who want to have the trees, please come to the command station. We will serve you," Nurjamil said. (*/DWA/T007)
