Ba'asyir Performs Idul Adha Prayers

Cilacap (Antara Bali) - Terrorism convict Abu Bakar Ba'asyir performed Idul Adha prayers on the premises of Batu penitentiary in Nusakambangan island off Central Java's southern coast on Friday.

Ba'asyir who was jailed at the penitentiary less than a month was seated in the front row, along with officers and other inmates of the penitentiary.

The leader of Al Mukmin Islamic boarding school in Ngruki, Central Java, appeared to solemnly listen to the Idul Adha sermon delivered by preacher KH Hasan A Makarim who was also the imam of the Idul Adha prayers.

Asked what he thought of the sermon, he said it was very good. "Every thing needs sacrifice like what the Prophet Ibrahim did," he said.

Ba'asyir said he has donated a goat to be slaughtered during the commemoration of Idul Adha (Islamic Day of Sacrifice) this year.

Ba`asyir was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment early this year after he was found guilty of running a terrorist training camp in Aceh province.

He was transferred to Nusakambangan jail from his detention cell at the National Police Headquarters` Criminal Investigation Department in Jakarta early this month.

Nusakambangan is an island in Central Java which houses correctional institutes for notorious criminals, including terrorists such as Amrozi, Imam Samudera and Muklas, who have since been executed.(*/T007)
