Student Alliance Demands Greenpeace Give Information

Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Alliance of Students Rejecting Foreign NGOs sent another application letter to the management of Greenpeace Indonesia for public information openness regarding its donor funds and foreign aid in compliance with article 16 of the Law on Public Information Openness (KIP).

The alliance's coordinator Rudy Gani said here on Wednesday, May 16, that the alliance has re-sent the letter because Greenpeace Indonesia has ignored the alliance's previous requests for public information openness regarding Greenpeace's management of received funds.

"Greenpeace has yet to provide answers on the donor and foreign funds under its management. Article 16 of the law clearly states that this information shall be provided by non-governmental organisations, including information on the management and use of funds from the state budget, regional budgets, community contributions or foreign sources," Rudy pointed out.

The alliance had filed a lawsuit on information openness on Friday, May 9, and the second letter on Wednesday, May 16.

According to Rudy, Greenpeace Indonesia's attitude of refusing to provide the public information only reinforces the alleged embezzlement of public funds and lack of transparency in the organisation's fund management.(IGT)
