Medan (Antara Bali) - The Medan office of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) found 103 hot spots in Sumatra Island through the satellite monitoring of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), an official said.
The BMKG's head of data and information service affairs, Hendra Swarta said here on Friday that most of the hot spots were found in the southern Sumatra like the South Sumatra, Jambi and Bengkulu.
Apart from that only a small number of hot spots found in northern Sumatra, such as in Aceh there were found only three hot spots, North Sumatra four and Riau 18 hot spots.
However, no hot spots were found in West Sumatra and Riau Islands, the official said.
Generally the hot spots were still small in nature, so they do not always develop into forest fires, he said.(IGT/T007)
