Padang (Antara Bali) - Kaimana II cruise ship was destroyed by fire at Bungus pier, Teluk Kabung, Padang, West Sumatra, on Thursday at 11.30 am local time.
"The fire department received a report on the mishap from a local resident," head of the Padang fire department Budi Erwanto said in Padang on Thursday.
He said the fire was triggered by the negligence of some of he ship's crew members when repairing the ship's rear section.
The flames rapidly spread to the rest of the ship as it has a great deal of fuel oil in its holds.
He also said that the firemen had difficulties in putting out the raging flames because the incident was rather far away from Padang city center.(IGT)
