Bakauheni to Operate 28 Ferries on Sunday

Bakauheni (Antara Bali) - Ferry company PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry will operate 28 ships to anticipate increasing passengers during the peak of Idul Fitri traffic on Sunday, the company said.

"Earlier, we predicted that Idul Fitri traffic surge would take place on Saturday but it would likely occur on Sunday," ASDP Manager for Bakauheni Yanus Lentanga said here on Sunday morning.

He said that his company would optimize the performance of port officials to accelerate the transportation of passengers and goods to Merak Port in Banten, Java.

"We will do our best to accelerate the unloading and loading process so that ships will sail soon again. Thus, we can optimize the ship trips," he said.

He said that PT ASDP would also coordinate with Merak's integrated terminal. In the meantime, the Merak branch of Inland and Waterway Transportation Services (ASDP) has also deployed 28 roll-on roll-off (roro) ferries in anticipation of an influx of returning Idul Fitri travelers.

"Although the port looks deserted, we have placed 28 ferries on standby to handle the inflow of Idul Fitri passengers," ASDP branch manager for Merak office Nana Sutisna said here on Friday. (*/DWA)
