Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Sail Morotai 2012 has officially been launched by Coordinator Minister of People Welfare Agung Laksono, accompanied by Minister of Marine and Fishery Sharif C Sutardjo and Governor of North Maluku Thaib Armaiyn.
Sutardjo in delivering his speech in Jakarta, on Wednesday night, March 14, said this launching was important to promote Morotai Island as one of the Pacific Islands, considering marine economy has moved from Atlantic region to Pacific region.
"The Morotai Island has geo-politic and geo-economic potentials that could be developed as the catalyst of economic development, especially in North Maluku," said Sutardjo.
He further said the Sail Morotai 2012 will push the regional development as marine and fishery industry, also marine and historical tourism.
According to the data of the Ministry of Marine and Fishery, Morotai Island has 160 species of economic-valued fish and 31 species of commercial fish which total amount reached 148,473.8 tons per year. From those amount, about 81,660.6 tons per year were could be used.(IGT)
