Surabaya (Antara Bali) - Army Chief of Staff General Pramono Edi Wibowo has raised an alarm over the rising number of road accidents, in which more than 500 soldiers died over the last one year.
"It shows the high rate of traffic accidents in Indonesia, a trend that signals there is something seriously wrong with the driving pattern of the public," he said on Wednesday evening.
The number of soldiers who died in traffic accidents was equal to one battalion, he said, hoping that it would no longer happen in the coming years.
East Java Governor Soekarwo expressed his regret over the deaths of 500 soldiers in a year.
"We on behalf of the East Java authorities express our concern over the high number of soldiers who died on the roads. It must not happen in the future, and an evaluation must be carried out by each party," Soekarwo said.(IGT)
