Karimun, Riau Islands (Antara Bali) - The dredger Kundur I of PT Timah caught fire in Kundur waters, Karimun regency, Riau Islands province, on Tuesday at 8.30 pm.
Kundur I may have caught fire after sparks caused welding by workers on the ship which quickly spread to other parts of the vessel.
"The accident took place an hour ago, the fire was quite big, but it has been put out," said Amin, a worker of PT Timah said from Tanjung Balai, Karimun, Tuesday night.
Amin said there was no fatalities, but the activities on board was stopped.
Spokesman for PT Timah said he did not know a dredger caught fire.
"I did not know about it because I was in Batam," he said.
He said that the dredger before the accident happened may be renovating the boat because workers had been welding on board.(T007)
