Jambi (Antara Bali) - Another human fell victim to a wild tiger attack in a Sumatra forest on Friday (Jan 20), local police have confirmed.
Sargawi (33), a resident of Sungai Pinang village in Sungai Manau subdistrict, Jambi province, was cutting wood in a forest when a Sumtran tiger (panthera tigris Sumaterae) suddenly appeared and pounced on him. Although he was carrying a machete, Sargawi could not save himself and was killed, Bangko police chief Adjunct Commissioner Syamsi Ubay said when contacted from Jambi on Saturday.
The victim had been in the forest for the past few days together with a few other villagers to collect wood for house construction. The last time his comrades had seen him at their camp was on Thursday but when early Friday morning he was still missing, they informed his family at the village, and a search was then launched.
The search party at first found Sargawi's severed head, his pants and machete. The villagers then reported their finds to the local police, and, accompanied by some officers, later resumed the search.
Eventually, at 17.00 local time, they found Sargawi's headless and severely mangled body about 30 meters from the spot where they had recovered his head.(IGT/T007)
