Some 500 Doctors To Attend Perosi National Congress

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - At least 500 doctors from all over Indonesia will attend the 15th National Congress of the Indonesian Osteoporosis Association (Perosi) to be held here on October 21-23, 2011.

"The congress will be attended by about 500 doctors, both specialists and general practitioners in the handling of osteoporosis," Prof Dr Ketut Siki Kawiyana said here on Friday.

The therapy  and medical treatment of patients suffering from osteoporosis which constitutes a degenerative disease has gained an extraordinary progress, he said.

"Usually, osteoporosis attacks elderly people of over 60 years old, both male and female. But the early attack of the disease is mostly on women, particularly those who have entered the menopause period," he said.

Siki said that if the patient underwent a bone fracture, she or he would need a comprehensive treatment to prevent disability and inability.

This is, he said, to achieve a better life quality in accordance with the theme of the congress, namely "Quality of Life will be Better Through Bone Quality."

"The aim of the congress is to increase doctors' knowledge and professionalism in that field in order to face global competition," he said.(*)
