Kuta (Antaranews Bali) - Indonesia`s Province of Bali hosted an international Plants Quarantine Regulators Meeting (QRM), which was participated by representatives of 22 countries, here on Wednesday.

"It is a great honor for Bali, in particular, and Indonesia, in general, to establish biosecurity standards of export and import of agricultural products," head of Indonesian Plants Quarantine Agency, Hanun Harpini, said.

According to him, this meeting is a proof of the confidence and appreciation of the QRM member countries on Indonesia?s commitment to develop international cooperation on the plants quarantine affairs.

This 10th QRM meeting will share knowledge and experience corresponding to phytosanitary or plant health measures and establish the standard recognition formats, their application in accelerating the implementation of trade facilitation agreements, and aligning the policy of dwelling time, Harpini remarked.

He further remarked that the phytosanitary measures should be increasingly significant following a series of catastrophic pests that occurred in various parts of the world, because world trade has improved the standards of plant quality.

This meeting has become an important forum to talk about the challenges faced by the QRM member countries in international trade related to phytosanitary harmonization or efforts requiring the removal or destruction of infected plants.

The support of QRM meetings will emphasize the role of government agencies with relevance to biosecurity and border management among countries.

This meeting can emphasize the importance of harmonization in global trade facilitation, Harpini added. (WDY)
