Singaraja, Bali (Antaranews Bali) - The River Area Office (BWS) of Bali Penida will conduct repair work to revitalize Lake Buyan in Pancasari Village, Sukasada Sub-District, Buleleng District, Bali Province, that has overflown since early 2018.

Head of BWS Bali Penida Ketut Jayada stated on Friday that funds worth Rp150 billion were needed to revitalize Lake Buyan. He expects support from the Buleleng district government to submit the plan to the central government to immediately repair the lake.

Jayada explained that funds of some Rp150 billion will be used to repair the embankment and to also build a jogging track around the lake. In addition, a mudflow pond will be built to collect mud when it rains.

"The water entering the lake no longer contains mud but has been absorbed by the infiltration pond. The weeds covering several sections of the lake will also be removed, so that there is silting," he stated.

Head of Buleleng District Putu Agus Suradnyana expressed support to the steps undertaken by BWS of Bali Penida to improve the condition of Lake Buyan. Following restoration, Lake Buyan is expected to attract several tourists to the scenic natural tourist destination in Buleleng.

The effort was made after the building of Elementary School (SDN) 4 of Pancasari, Sukasada Sub-district, Buleleng, got inundated by the water from Lake Buyan that overflowed. As a result, three classrooms in the school could not be used for teaching and learning activities. (adt/KR-TQA/INE)
