President To Inaugurate Silangit International Airport

Medan, N Sumatra (Antara Bali) - President Joko Widodo will inaugurate the new Silangit International Airport in North Tapanuli, North Sumatra Province, in a bid to improve mobility in the region.

President Widodo and his entourage will board the presidential aircraft from the Soewondo Air Base in Medan City and land at Silangit Airport, Deputy of Protocol, Press, and Media of the President Secretariat Bey Machumdin noted in a press release received here on Friday.

Widodo will also visit Langkat District to distribute Indonesia Educational Assistance Card and Social Assistance Card.

Moreover, he will hand out land certificates to the people of Stabat Sub-district, Langkat, of North Sumatra.

Moreover, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the government has upgraded Silangit Airport to an international airport.

The airport has been upgraded, with infrastructure that supports the landing of wide-bodied aircraft.

Several international airlines, such as Garuda Indonesia Airways, connect the Silangit Airport to the Changi Airport in Singapore.

Silangit can accommodate 500 thousand passengers per year and has a runway measuring 2,650 meters in length and 30 meters in width.

The customs, immigration, and quarantine facilities are available at the airport.

The Silangit Airport was upgraded to an international level to offer ease of access to tourists keen on visiting Lake Toba and other tourism attractions in North Sumatra.

Several ministers who accompanied the president for the inauguration are Budi Karya, State Enterprise Minister Rini Soemarno, and Tourism Minister Arief Yahya.

Widodo will return to Medan City on Friday afternoon.(WDY)
