Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The movement of certain groups and organizations to establish an Indonesian Islamic State (NII) is aimed to disrupt he Unitary State of the Indonesian Republic (NKRI), a minister said.
"There is no room for that group of people and organization who wants to see the country an Islamic state, for all that steps out of the track of NKRI is illegal," Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said here on Thursday night.
Speaking at a banquet hosted by Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika, the justice minister said he had no idea why the group and organization wanted to establish an Islamic state in Indonesia.
Patrialis said NII movement was feared to divide the national unity and integrity and therefore it could not be tolerated.
"We are brothers in one nation and we don't want to see the nation disintegrated. Therefore there is no importance of such a movement," Patrialis said.
Related to the rampant brainwashing action by NII activists at a number universities in the country, the justice minister said it was conducted by only a few people.
"The brainwashing activity at certain campuses was done by only a few people of NII activists who did not understand," Patrialis asserted.
But he called on the people to remain vigilant and take precautions against NII movement.
"The people should not be easily provoked by the existence of NII movement but remain vigilant," Patrialis said.
Meanwhile, House of Representatives' Commission-III member I Gusti Ketut Adhiputra said the existence of NII movement should be related to its legality.
Gusti said if the organization was not registered, it was illegal and disturbing the people.
"The NII movement must have a legal entity, otherwise it is illegal and that its activities must be traced further," Gusti said.(*)
