BPOM Seizes 152,766 Items Of Unregistered Drugs In Bali

Denpasar (Antara Bali) - The Drug and Food Monitoring Agency (BPOM) Office in Bali Province has released 152,766 items of unregistered drugs and cosmetics it seized in a series of operations this year.

"The finds are the result of hard work of the team, which routinely conducted raids in the field. The number of unregistered drugs and medicines found this year increased compared to that of last year," Chief of the BPOM Office Endang Widowati said here on Friday.

Last year, the office seized 129,071 items of unregistered drugs and cosmetics valued at Rp2.03 billion compared with 152,766 items worth Rp3.1 billion this year, she said.

Most of these products were circulated in rural areas as many villagers had little knowledge of genuine and fake products, she said.
As a result, they had difficulty distinguishing between legal and illegal products, she added.

"Many products were found without circulation permits. The products contained chemicals. As they (people) received inaccurate information, they used the products. By conducting raids and familiarizing the public with legal drugs, we hope they will choose products more accurately," she said.

The unregistered products found this year comprised 113,195 pieces of cosmetics, 21,553 pieces of drugs, 9,419 pieces of traditional drugs, 7,127 pieces of food and 1,472 pieces of food supplement. (WDY)
