Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and her Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevicius signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and two bilateral agreements on Thursday.
"We are pleased to welcome Lithuania's Foreign Minister and delegation. We have signed three documents, namely a MoU on bilateral consultation, a Free Visa Agreement for diplomatic and service passport holders and an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation," Marsudi said on Thursday.
She said during the bilateral meeting that the two sides will focus discussions on cooperation potential in three fields: education, energy and aviation.
"In the education field, we have agreed to select sectors that can bring cooperation. We have also agreed to cooperate in the development of information and communications technology, as well on biotechnology," she said.
In the field of energy, the two countries will explore the possibilities of cooperation in the renewable energy sector, solar panels in particular. She said Lithuania's Foreign Minister was therefore scheduled to meet Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister.
"For cooperation in the third field of aviation, Lithuania's Foreign Minister will meet with Indonesia's Minister of Transportation tomorrow," noted Marsudi.
On the occasion, Lithuania's Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevicius, said the meeting between the two ministers was a historic one because this was the first time Lithuania's Foreign Minister had visited Indonesia.
"I agree with the Indonesia's Foreign Minister that the two sides need to explore the potential of cooperation for the interest of both countries," remarked Linkevicius.
"What we have signed constitutes the beginning of more cooperation in the future," Linkevicius added. (WDY)
