Yogyakarta (Antara Bali) - Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Maria Lumen Isleta visited Yogyakarta to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation in various fields.

"There are no specific forms of cooperation. We will explore the possibilities first," Mayor of Yogyakarta Haryadi Suyuti noted here, Thursday.

According to Suyuti, the Yogyakarta City administration had never cooperated with the Philippines or any city in that country.

Suyuti stated that among the several areas of cooperation that can be established between Yogyakarta and the Philippines, is tourism which is also the main potential of Yogyakarta.

"The important aspect behind establishing a partnership is to provide benefits to the people of both countries," he emphasized.

He remarked that the visit of the Philippines ambassador to Yogyakarta was also related to the case of a Philippines national named Mary Jane who is now in the Wirogunan correctional institution, Yogyakarta.

The Philippine ambassador explained the visit plan of a Philippines Congressman for Employment Affairs Manny Pacquiao or Pacman, a world boxing champion, to Wirogunan to visit Mary Jane.

"She hoped that others would not go through the same ordeal as Mary Jane," Suyuti affirmed. (WDY)
