Semarang, C Java (Antara Bali) - Bank Indonesia predicted the country's inflation would be higher in December  up from 1.36 percent in November.

Administered prices of certain goods are expected to continue to edge up as a result of the subsidized oil fuel (BBM) price hike in November, a central bank deputy for Central Java Marlison Hakim said here on Tuesday.

It is in line with the central bank estimate that the BBM price hike will have impact for three month, Marlison said.

"The culmination of the BBM price hike would be in  December," he added.

The prices of volatile foods are also predicted to rise on limited supply of foodstuff ahead of Christmas and New Year, he said.

"There would be pressure on core inflation  as a result of an increase in the public expectation  in connection with the BBM price adjustment  by the government," he said.

He said the central bank would strengthen coordination to control inflation  through Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID)  with the regional administration to cope with the heavy inflation challenge ahead triggered mainly by pressure by administered prices.

"Through good coordination  and various steps that were already taken earlier, the central bank is confident that inflation could be put under control in 2014," he said. (WDY)
