"The development of growth centers puts emphasis on local resource-based manufacturing industries," State Minister of National Development Planning/Head of National Development Planning Board (Bappenas) Armida Alisjahbana said here on Thursday.
Addressing a meeting on the 2011 Bali provincial development plan, the minister said the new growth centers were expected to give added value to key commodities.
The key commodities covering agricultural, fishery and plantation products would hopefully have highh competitive edge in the global market, he said.
The development of new growth centers would no doubt create more jobs. "The number of workers employed will be higher than last year's," he said.
He said an average of 1.9 million new job seekers were employed in each of the past four years.
The development of growth centers would also be accompanied with the implementation of development programs in a more effective and efficient way, he said.
Of equal importance was increasing public participation, bureaucratic performance and public services, he said.
These would all require synergy between the central and regional governments including the delegation of authority from the central government to regional administrations, he said.(*)
