Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Two more police officers of the Pondok Arean district police were killed by an armed motorcyclist on Friday.
Kus Hendratma was shot from behind when he was on his way to a police roll call in preparation for the August 17 National Independence Day commemorations held at 21.30 local time in Pondok Aren, Tangerang that night, Jakarta police spokesman Sr. Comr Rikwanto said.
Other police officers, who saw the shooting, jumped into a car and went after the perpetrator, Rikwanto said on Saturday.
The police caught up with the motorcycle and hit it but the police car slid into a gutter. The man then shot dead the driver, a police member, Maulana, after he came out of the car, he said.
National police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo and his deputy Comr.Gen. Oengroseno looked in on the two dead officers at the Kramatjati police hospital on Saturday morning.
Last week a Cilandak police officer, Dwiyanto was shot dead by unknown man at a Ciputat street, Tangerang at 04.30 local time.
Dwiyanto was shot at his head when he was on his way from his house in Pamulang for an early morning prayer held by the Cilandak police sector in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta.
Last month, a traffic police officer Patah Saktiyono (53) was shot dead by two men riding a motorcycle at Jalan Cirendeu Raya, Ciputat at 04.30 local time.
Police have said the perpetrators were terrorists who vented their hatred on police to avenge the deaths of many terrorists by police special squad known as Densus 88. (*/DWA)
