"We, as a nation which is very diverse, need it (Pancasila). The challenges and problems that we are facing now, in fact, make Pancasila more relevant and needed," Boediono said here on Saturday when leading a ceremony to commemorate the Pancasila Day.
Pancasila state ideology as the soul of the nation was born out of noble values of the Indonesian people's diversity. The noble values have existed since centuries ago, according to the vice president.
The noble values were later absorbed by the country's leaders and summarized into five principals as the nation's state ideology by Soekarno, Indonesia's first president.
"Therefore, the diversity should be seen as a mandate. It should be preserved well. Moreover, the diversity should be tied to become a unity," he said. (*/DWA)
