Denpasar (Antara Bali) - Indonesia could easily become the world`s second largest producer of coffee as the country has large coffee plantations.
Currently Indonesia is the third largest producer after Brazil and Vietnam, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Syarifuddin Hasan said.
Indonesia, however, needs to promote its coffee as the quality of Indonesian coffee is competitive facing coffee from other producing countries, Syarifuddin said in Nusa Dua, Bali on Tuesday night.
Development of Indonesia`s coffee industry will concern the interest of large number of people as the industry involves many small businesses and cooperatives, he said.
He said Indonesia needs to at least maintain its positions as the third largest producers of coffee in the world. The country is the second largest producer of robusta coffee after Vietnam.
"If necessary our position could be raised to become the second largest after Brazil," he said.(*/T007)
