Jakarta (Antara Bali) - A coalition of a number of non governmental organizations has said Indonesia should take an initiative to accelerate the realization of "Green Climate Fund" (GCF) to mobilize funds to cope with the adverse effects of global climate change.
The coalition of NGOs including Anti Debt Coalition, Coalition of People for Fishery Justice, Civil Society Forum (CSF) and Indonesian environmentalists (Walhi) said in a statement here on Tuesday Indonesia as a member of the GCF council representing Asia Pacific's developing countries, should become a strong messenger for the region grouping the largest number of countries and one of the most vulnerable to climate change.
The coalition also questioned the mechanism of the GCF management including sources of fund, fund allocation and the mechanism of access by the people .
So far, rich countries especially the United States, and the European Union have not gone beyond giving promises, it said, adding "not a dollar has been given to CGF."
It is a historical obligation of the industrialized countries to rehabilitate the condition in countries suffering from the impact of climate change, it said in a statement here today.(IGT)
