Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Indonesian currency  rupiah traded  at 9,550 per dollar on Thursday morning weakening 20 points from 9,530 on yesterday's closing.

Market observer Lana Soelistianingsih of Samuel Sekuritas, said  here Thursday the rupiah value tended to be bearish against the US dollar, but Bank Indonesia (BI) is expected to prevent the currency from falling deeper.

"With the central bank on its defense, the rupiah would move in a narrow space," Lana said.

She  predicted  the US economy would not be as bad as many had feared amid shrinking exports and economic recession in Europe.

"The US economy grew 1.7 percent  year on year in the second quarter of 2012  after a 2 percent growth YOY  in the previous quarter," she said.(IGT)
