Mataram (Antara Bali) - Deputy regent of North Lombok Najmul Ahyar said Lombok has tourists objects that could be developed to eclipse Bali as major tourist destination in the worlds.
The island of Trawangan and two neighboring islands Meno and Air off the Pemenang sub-district are being developed to facilitate tourists, Najmul said.
Currently the number of visitors to the three islands average 1,300 tourists per day, he said in Tanjung on Saturday.
He said the construction of a new modern international airport, Bandara Internasional Lombok (BIL) in Lombok, will greatly contribute to promotion of Trawangan to become a world major tourist destination.
The airport project now under construction has attracted many investors including foreign investors from Middle East to build hotels and other facilities in Lombok.
Lombok is no less potential than Bali, but it still badly needs infrastructure to facilitate visitors, a prospective investor said.(IGT)
