It has come to the government's notice that new mining businesses have carried out large-scale exploitation of export mineral deposits without taking sufficient steps to rehabilitate the environment, said the Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Community (MPI) Presidium Herman Afif Kusumo here on Tuesday.
The chairman hoped that such regulations would make mining businesses realize that it is not easy to export the country's mineral resources .
"It's better to process mining resources here to give added value. We don't want to see the country being exploited by foreigners, while the mining tax is small," he remarked.
However, the chairman also pointed out the lack of effective coordination among the government's institutions in drafting the percentage of the planned export tax.(IGT)
