Jakarta (Antara Bali) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has detained Kampar District Chief Burhanudin Husin as a suspect in a corruption case related to the appropriation of income from a forestry program in Pelawan district, Riau province.

KPK spokesman Johan Budi said , Burhanuddin was detained after KPK investigators had finished questioning him at 16.30 on Tuesday. He was suspected of having committed corrupt acts when he was head of Riau province's forestry office in the period 2005-2006.

It was believed Burhanuddin misused his authority and a permit to utilize the proceeds from a horticultural forest causing a financial loss estimated at Rp 470 billion to the state.

He had actually been named a suspect since 2008 together with three other men but it was only on Tuesday that KPK investigators deemed it necessary to put him behind bars.(T007)
