Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Vice President Boediono has asked regional governments to optimize the function of Vocational Training Centers (BLK) so as to better help the younger generation increase their chances of obtaining gainful employment.

"I understand there are vocational training centers in many  regions but not all of them are functioning optimally," the vice president said in remarks opening a Government Working Meeting 2012 at JI-Expo Kemayoran on Thursday.

Boediono said regional governments could enter into  cooperation arrangements with various industries to optimize the function of the vocational training centers to accommodate  young members of the workforce.

The vice president said Indonesia's workforce included a large number of young people but they were not receiving sufficient attention from the regional governments.

He said  the problem of employment was closely related to the problem of poverty, and the poverty rate could be reduced if employment numbers could be be raised.(T007)
