"Indonesia is scoring better than other Asian countries, or in fact is the best in Asia where fighting corruption is concerned. But I do not deny that we are still facing many problems in this regard," he said.
Speaking to the press after attending a function to mark the 60th anniversary of the North Sumatra Islamic University (UISU) here Saturday, Denny also refuted the notion that Indonesia's corruption eradication program had stagnated or gone nowhere. "On the contrary, our anti-corruption drive has intensified and is now even the best in Asia," he said.
He said, over the past few years Indonesia had made and issued many anti-corruption regulations and set up several anti-corruption agencies to strengthen the drive to fight and prevent graft.
"Indonesia's anti-corruption regulations were continuously improved from year to year. Our corruption fighting record for the period 2004-2011 is five times better than China's. Nevertheless, we will continue to do better," he said.
Improvements in the climate of Indonesia's democracy in recent years also contributed to the success of its corruption eradication efforts, Denny said.(T007)
