Jakarta (Antara Bali) - Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo won their 7th Super Series champion title after winning the final men's doubles event at the closing tournament of the 2017 season in Dubai on Sunday.
In the BWF World Super Series Finals 2017 tournament in Hamdan Sports Complex in Dubai, Uni Arab Emirates, the Indonesian duo defeated Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan from China 21-16, 21-18 to win the title, Antara learned from the BWF website.
Marcus/Kevin had earlier won champion titles from All England, India Open, Malaysia Open, Japan Open, China Open and Hong Kong Open before winning the Super Series Finals 2017.
With their last victory they broke the six-time super series title record held by South Korean pair Lee Yong-dae/Yoo Yeon-seong.
"The victory this time is really special, very special for us because we could make a hattrick twice this year. We could win seven super series titles in a year. This is the first. It is unbelievable. It's a miracle," Kevin said according to the All Indonesia Badminton Association (PBSI).
With the victory Marcus and Kevin also made up for the loss they suffered from Liu/Zheng in the final round of Denmark Open 2017 when they failed to perform maximally because of Marcus' injury. (WDY)
